Minimum Age Limit (Age as of 1st August 2026) – 18 Years
Maximum Age Limit (Age as of 1st August 2026) is,
- General Category – 26 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 29 years
- SC/ ST – 31 years
- Dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984 (Dep 1984) – 31 years
- Persons domiciled in Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir State from 01st January 1980 to 31st December 1989 (Dom Kashmir) – 31 years.
Application Fees :
- A non-refundable Application Fee of 500/- is chargeable from the male applicants belonging to the General and OBC categories according to BARC Scientific Officer Notification 2025.
- Women candidates, candidates belonging to SC/ ST, Dependents of Defense Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA), and Physically Challenged candidates are exempted from payment of the Application Fee.
Salary Details :
- During Training :
- Monthly Stipend: ₹74,000
- One-time Book Allowance: ₹30,000 (for OCES)
- Full tuition fee coverage (for DGFS)
- Hostel accommodation provided
- After Appointment :
- Starting Salary: ~₹1,35,000 per month (including increments based on performance)

Selection Process :
1. Screening:
- BARC Online Screening Examination : This is a computer-based test conducted in multiple engineering and science disciplines across more than fifty cities in India. No travel allowance is provided for appearing in this examination. The exam tests subject knowledge in the chosen discipline.
- OR Valid GATE Score : Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can be screened directly based on a valid GATE score from GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 in the relevant subject/paper.
Candidates are advised to attempt both for better chances.
2. Selection Interview
- Only candidates who are screened in (shortlisted) through the above process are called for a personal interview. The interview assesses technical knowledge, aptitude, and suitability for a career in nuclear research and technology. Final selection is based primarily on performance in the interview.
- This process ensures selection of highly qualified candidates for training as Scientific Officers in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) units.
